ShoalScoutAbout FishIndexBot
The crawler that keeps ShoalScout up to date. It identifies itself as FishIndexBot.
What it reads
Only public catalogue data: product names, prices, stock status and the product page address. It never logs in, never creates accounts, never fills carts and never reads customer data.
How politely
It obeys robots.txt (rules for FishIndexBot or *) and Crawl-delay, makes one request at a time per shop with a pause between requests, and backs off when a shop is busy (429/503).
Product photos
Next to each listing we show a small thumbnail of the seller’s own product photo, loaded from the seller’s site and linked to its product page — the way shopping search engines do. We never copy or re-host it; opting out removes it with the listing. Species photos come from Wikimedia Commons under free licences, credited on Photo credits.
Block it or opt out
Add User-agent: FishIndexBot / Disallow: / to your robots.txt, or use the form below — we remove your listings within 24 hours and never scan your site again.
